Helrig Box
Your pedal, on your Wi-Fi.
The Helrig Box is a small box next to your pedal. Plug the pedal in by USB, and the Box puts it on your Wi-Fi. Helrig finds it and edits the pedal live, saves presets to it and manages your IRs, just as over a cable, from a tablet on your mic stand or a laptop across the room.
How it works
- The pedal plugs into the Box with the USB cable you already have.
- The Box joins your Wi-Fi. It only carries the pedal’s USB traffic and doesn’t touch your presets.
- Helrig finds the Box in the device menu and connects, the same way as over a cable.
Build one
The Helrig Box is a DIY build. There’s no soldering: you install the firmware from your browser in about two minutes.
You need: a Waveshare ESP32-P4-NANO board, a USB-C cable that carries data, a USB-C power source, and your pedal’s USB cable.

Optional: a 3D-printed case, in a single-colour and a multi-colour version.
Good to know
- Tested with a Helix LT and an HX Stomp so far. Other Helix and HX pedals should work the same way, but haven’t been tried yet. If you try one, tell me how it went.
- 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only.
- Pairs once per device: press Pair in Helrig, then BOOT on the board. The traffic isn’t encrypted, so use the Box on a network you trust.
- Needs Helrig Connect or Helrig Pro, the same as connecting over USB.
- Works in Helrig for Mac, Windows, Linux and Android. Not in the browser.
Open source
The Box runs ToneRelay, an open-source Wi-Fi relay for Helix pedals by Mark Peskett, with a small Helrig Box profile. The firmware, the flasher and the docs are MIT licensed, and the case is based on a model by MartinFaustMayer, shared under CC BY 4.0.
